That's Inca-redible

The Telegraph in the UK had an article about a model of Machu Picchu made from Lego blocks. Cheese much.

It was meant to highlight the historical attraction and get more visitors to come.

Luckily I made it there myself way back in 2005 - one of those 'trips of a lifetime' - and it certainly wasn't easy to get to.
After arriving from Washington DC to the capital, Lima, we flew to Cusco and stayed at the unforgettable Hotel Monasterio, one of the Orient Express properties. The building was a former monastery, hence the name.
Hotel Monasterio
Spent a few days going around the pretty town.
From there we took the luxurious Orient Express train to Aguas Calientes. The train had 2 dining cars, a bar car, and an observation car at the rear. Loved it!
They gave us a mini-cultural show while we waited. The train leaves later in the day than other trains so that guests can arrive at Machu Picchu while most other tourists are gone - all the better to enjoy the setting.
The ride included a 3-course dinner, entertainment, and butler service!
We passed through some amazing scenery along the way. Sadly it ended after only 3 hours.
Once we reached Machu Picchu, we checked-into our hotel for the evening - the Sanctuary Lodge. It is the only hotel allowed to be built by the citadel, just 50 meters from the site. We were told prior to getting there that the only room left was one of two suites.

Since we were spending the night nearby, we didn't have to take the last bus out to Aguas Calientes which is where most visitors to the citadel stay. Having Machu Picchu all to ourselves, now that's a luxury.

One useful tip: Never wear shorts - I was eaten alive by stealthy insects when I was there.
The following morning, we woke up before sunrise to get a good location for the requisite Machu Picchu picture. After several tries...
The early morning money shot
We stayed until lunch, took the train back again to Cusco, stayed a couple of days, then it was back to the U.S.
What an amazing and incredible trip that was. Hope to see you again in person, Peru. (:
